Chinese quilts

Zodiac quilt & panda quilt: In the past, when a new baby was born, family members went out side to ask the villagers to give old cloth patches to make a lucky charm quilt for the new born baby.  When they collected enough patches ,they cut them out into different shapes and sewed them onto a quilt.  After they finished it, they either hung it on the wall and decorated the baby’s room or used it as the baby’s quilt.  They prayed these special patterns would bring the new baby good luck and health.

The design of the Chinese zodiac symbolized luck for every month and through the years when the baby grows up to be 12years old.

They designed five poisonous animals for combating poison with poison. They could get rid of evil, and the baby would stop crying and being scared during the night.  It’s a funny story, but really useful.

The five poisonous animals are the spider, lizard, scorpion, serpent, and centipede.

The frog symbolizes good wealth,

The butterfly symbolizes blessing.

The dragon symbolizes spirit and power.

The panda symbolizes value and preciousness.

The bright color red symbolizes luck and happiness.

Around the quilts, we have a blue and red border.  To maintain the quilt’s longevity, please dry clean or wash by hand.  But you don’t need wash them often; you can just whisk the dust away.
