What is a Jade Certificate? ¡°Óñ뺡±Yu Deye
The character ¡®Óñ¡¯ or jade symbolizes wealth, and ¡®ëº¡¯ means certificate. Yu Deye used to be made of black jade also known as natural black granite.
In ancient China the royal families used these wealth plaques as personal birth certificates; they symbolized a noble¡¯s royal identity and their station in society.
The engraving of the Yu Deye would be started when a new baby (either biological or adopted) came to a family, it accompanied the child forever, that¡¯s why it is also called a ¡°Life Stone¡±.
Parents would hold the Yu Deye for the child until they grew-up. Parents would present it to their child, on their 18th birthday, as a special and important gift. From that point on the Yu Deye would be referred to as their ¡°Adult Stone¡±.
The engraved certificate includes the parent¡¯s hand signature or seal and some special words of blessing and hope for their child. It also may include the child¡¯s birthday or the day of adoption, zodiac, name, picture, child¡¯s hand or foot print and sometimes other personalization¡¯s by the parent. This certificate holds a special significance in a child¡¯s life.
A YuDeye is one of the best gifts to give to your child. It is not only a parents validation but also a record of the child¡¯s birth and life, The emotional information engraved on the certificate follows them through out their lives. Whenever the child looks upon this, he or she will be filled with the remembrance of their parents and childhood. It will also bring them good luck, fortune, strong background and encouragement through out life.

Traditionally the certificate is engraved with a dragon on one side and a phoenix on the other. The bottom is engraved with the waves of the ocean.
(The Dragon symbolizes the Son of Heaven, or power. The Phoenix, in Chinese mythology, is the most respected bird amongst the bird kingdom, so the phoenix represents respect, Wind symbolizes the sky and the vast world it encompasses, the waves of the ocean symbolize Man¡¯s origin/genesis.)
