It’s a wonderful tradition in China for parents to make a special box for their daughter’s wedding day. Wedding boxes would come in all sorts of beautiful designs. Some would be painted with special flowers, Chinese characters for “double happiness,” scenic views of the countryside or ornate buildings, lovely children, or different lucky designs on the surface. The designs symbolize such things as luckiness, happiness, wealth, health, etc… as a special luck charm. For example, “Double Happiness” is symbolized by a traditional sign of happiness and affection. The symbol is made of two matching sides. The balance within this symbol represents the universal need for equality and balance in all of our relationships. Today, the gift of "Double Happiness" can build and strengthen a bond between family members and friends regardless of country or culture!

Part of the tradition is for people to put special things in the box (some family heirlooms, jewelry, rice, corn or anything of significance). The idea being that these things would bring prosperity and luck to their daughter’s family, and with the wish that she will have smart and good children.

We carry pottery and porcelain wedding boxes. All of the beautiful designs are painted by hand. The special designs offer accurate predictions for good fortune to your daughter on her special day. Because the vintage porcelain is often rare – there are limited quantities of certain designs – we sometimes cannot get the precise design that you want. However, we promise to find a very similar design for you.
